Corduroy Ivy Pinafore
I’ve had my eyes on the Ivy Pinafore by Jennifer Lauren Handmade for a while and I bought it in the sale as I thought I had the perfect fabric for it. The pinafore is fully lined, and it comes in 2 views: a classic fitted silhouette and a full babydoll style variation. I went for the fitted style because I like the classic look and got the right amount of fabric for it. The outer fabric was a forest green cotton corduroy called Theo from Potter and Co. The lining is a soft viscose from Spotlight.
I finished the Ivy Pinafore 3 months ago and I’m finally writing this up. I must admit I didn’t like it after I finished it, mainly because I missed the crucial information that the pattern was drafted for a D cup bust after it’s almost done. Rookie mistake! You can see in the fit pic below the excess fabric around the bust darts. I tried my best to fix it by marking the correct apex position and stitched the darts again. It’s not perfect, but definitely a lot more wearable.
I made a size 6 graded to 8 from the waist down, it’s pretty much a standard adjustment I need to make for fitted garments. I love that it has decent sized pockets and the buttons can be completely decorative, so you don’t need to make the buttonholes if you don’t want to. I did because I thought the option to undo the shoulder straps may help with getting in and out of the pinafore, but it doesn’t really make any difference.
With the fitted style, it does take a bit of a wiggle to get out of, but apart from that, it’s grown on me and I reached for it quite a lot this winter. Every time I wear it I thanked my past self to line it with a slippery fabric so it doesn’t stick to the tights. It’s also very easy to style. I usually wear a fitted black top underneath with patterned tights, but it would also work with a more colourful top and contrasting tights. I just love the 90s vibe 😄!
