Burda 6520 dress

Third time’s a charm! It’s true for my latest make, the Burda 6520 half shirt dress. I’ve made it three times now and this version is my favourite! This pattern is special to me because a few years back, when I made it for the first time with a cotton voile, I truly felt happy with it because I picked the right fabric for the pattern! I’ve come a long way since then but it was an ah-ha moment for me.

This time I made a view A, which is the knee-length version with a view B sleeves instead of the cap sleeves. I was going to use this bright and cheerful yellow gingham linen from The Fabric Store for another pattern, but realised I didn’t have enough yardage when I lay it all out. Yes, I’m not someone who buys fabric with a project in mind, I stash!

I made a size 34. Shortened the skirt by 3cm and because I didn’t have enough fabric, I omitted the sleeve cuffs. This time, I also made the pocket (there’s only one pocket because it has a side zip) much bigger!

I used the bamboo hex buttons from Arrow Mountain. Love the clash in geometric design and the vintage look in the gingham fabric. Here I’m also wearing the ruby slippers pin from Jubly Umph

I love the summery, vintage vibe of this dress, I like pairing it with a pair of pale pink oxford shoes or tan flat-form sandals.

The deep pleats gave the skirt much fullness, the light linen just flows so nicely when worn. We’ve had lengthy hot days this summer and a linen dress with sleeves is light and cool to wear and it protects me from the harsh sun. Stylish and functional! What more can I ask for?
